Advertisers flocking to the iPad

You saw the amazing interactive digital magazine prototype from ViV the other day, well now, according to news reports, advertisers are chomping at the bit to be included in magazines and newspapers designed for the iPad. And the iPad is still not in anyone’s hands (tho only 9 more days! Woohoo!).

Here’s an example from the Wall Street Journal “Time magazine has signed up Unilever, Toyota Motor , Fidelity Investments and at least three others for marketing agreements priced at about $200,000 apiece for a single ad spot in each of the first eight issues of the magazine’s iPad edition, according to people familiar with the matter.”

The Guardian UK says “FedEx, Buick and credit card company have bought space on the apps from New York Times, Newsweek, WSJ and others.

The New York Times reports that a high-end credit card company has purchased its iPad ad inventory for the device’s first two months on the market, while brands such as FedEx and Buick, are buying ads on the apps of other publications, including the WSJ, Newsweek, Time and Reuters. The NYT says the going rate is $75,000 to $300,000 “for a few months of exclusivity” on one of these apps.”

So it appears that we’ll see application versions of magazines and newspapers like Sports Illustrated, Wired, Time, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal on the iPad. In fact. the WSJ announced that their iPad version will run you about $18 monthly.
