Today, it appears two big name stores will be selling the iPad besides the Apple store, Amazon and Best Buy.
9to5Mac reported the Amazon page announcing the iPad. They indicated that it couldn’t be found with a search but that it was indeed there and you could enter your email address to be able to be notified when they had stock to sell. However, as of this writing this evening (3/26/10), the page has gone offline. It was there this morning – I saw it — really 🙂
Macrumors found the Best Buy information and posted in this story “Best Buy Preps for April 3rd iPad Launch“.
“Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has reportedly begun preparations for the launch of Apple’s Wi-Fi iPad models on April 3rd, providing its retail store employees with details of events leading up to the launch. Sources report that the iPad will initially be carried only at Best Buy locations offering devoted “store-within-a-store” Apple Shop sections. Approximately 675 of the company’s over 1000 U.S. locations offer such dedicated sales areas for Apple products, and other locations and bestbuy.com will not carry the iPad at launch.”
Yep, this morning, I did it – I pre-ordered 2 Apple iPads!
In case you think I’m crazy, I don’t think so. One is for me, the other is for someone who writes a review on one of my sister sites, planet5D Review – so you too could be selected in the giveaway – just write a review of a camera product that is on planet5D Review and you’ll be eligible.
The one I ordered for myself was the 32gb wi-fi version. I have an iPhone and I don’t think I am gonna need to have the 3G connectivity while I’m out – but you never know. I don’t travel much (but that could change at any time) and I think that I can use the 3G on my iPhone to keep tabs on the world when I’m out and not near wi-fi.
So, right now, I’m really excited – I cannot wait to get this new iPad. I don’t currently have a mac laptop (tho I do have a windows xp laptop for my day job that I don’t like much) and I do find the iPhone a bit small for doing things while I’m away from my iMac.
What do I think I’m going to use this thing for tho? Well, that’s a good question. I would like to get away from this computer a bit more – but I really do spend a vast majority of my time in front of a computer. I am hoping that I can use the iPad for a bit more things while I’m away from the computer. I plan to have a lot more photos on it too. I bought the small dock and plan to have it sitting next to my iMac when I’m at my desk… hopefully doing a slideshow of my favorite pix. I’m also a part time photographer, so I can see some cool uses as a portfolio. Even Vincent Laforet is planning on sending out iPads as portfolios (see item 7 in his list) to potential clients – what a great idea!
I recently discovered Instapaper and am trying to use it to store things I need to read. When browsing on the web on your main computer, you click a bookmarklet and Instapaper stores the page for you to go back and read later. I am thinking that on the iPad, this will rawk (young kids spelling of ‘rock’ LOL – I’m so hip!)… saving things that I can read later and to use the iPad to get away – maybe sitting outside under a tree and reading the day’s news. I’m not sure how easy the iPad is going to be able to help me blog. I do tend to be a speed typer and I am eager to see how the goofy virtual keypad will be on the iPad.
So, what the heck am I doing spreading myself so thin (with a day job and tons of things to do for planet5D)? Well, I love Apple products and I’m super excited about the iPad and I’ve become really addicted to blogging, so why not? I hope you find something worthwhile here and please let me know what you think!
